Core Values
Message from the Superintendent

Dear Families, Students, Educators and Staff:

I am excited to welcome you to the 2024-25 school year and want to let you know how much we appreciate all you have done to prepare for and support a wonderful start to our new year! I feel both honored and privileged to continue to be your Superintendent and to work with our highly qualified and dedicated staff, our wonderful students, the HISD Board of Trustees and all of the supportive parents and community members that make this an outstanding district.

At HISD we are committed to the highest priorities:
  • Academic excellence
  • Student safety
  • Academic achievement
  • Individual student growth
  • Partnering with parents
  • Offering a well-rounded education
  • Developing character
  • Providing innovative and engaging academic challenges
  • Continuing the tradition of challenging extra-curricular activities for all HISD students!
Based on these priorities, through a collaborative process with our administrators and the HISD Board of Trustees, we have identified and are committed to the six core values identified in the graphic above.

Through a focus on these core values, Hardin ISD will provide a positive, challenging, and supportive academic environment to guide students toward success and college/career readiness.

We want your student to be involved. We want you to be involved with them and want all staff and community to be involved collaboratively because together we are building a better Hardin, one student at a time.

Best regards,
Scott Mackey, Superintendent, Hardin Independent School District
Curriculum Highlights
Book Taco fosters student voice while making reading fun. Book Taco provides the ultimate positive reinforcement platform where educators can praise and reward positive behavior and challenge students to read more books.
Exploros is a Social Studies online platform that provides interactive and engaging lesson materials for students. ALL students engage, sharing graphic organizers, drawings, short essays, and more. This student voice personalizes the learning, and increases meaning.
Social Studies Weekly is a customized, standards-based core curriculum founded on deep learning strategies that increase student knowledge and skills in Social Studies. Students at the elementary will use both consumable periodical handouts and online interactive lesson tools to learn and enhance their understanding of social studies concepts.
Reading Horizons  is a blended learning program that uses software and direct instruction materials to help students develop reading skills. The program is designed to be teacher-led and supportive, and aims to help students become confident readers by third grade.
Learning.com provides and prepares our students with critical digital skills. Our web-based curriculum for grades K-12 engages students as they learn keyboarding, online safety, applied productivity tools, computational thinking, coding and more. We are excited for our students to engage in the technology application TEKS and learn more about the ever changing digital tools and world.
Frog Street is our adopted Pre-K curriculum. It is a comprehensive, dual-language program designed to meet the needs of diverse learners while supporting developmental learning for literacy, math and content domains. This engaging, interactive pre-kindergarten curriculum celebrates the joy of learning and incorporates strategies to build strong social and emotional foundations which children can learn to solve conflicts and manage their emotions.
STEMScopes
We are thrilled to announce the implementation of our new science curriculum resource, "STEMScopes." This program emphasizes hands-on learning, critical thinking, and real-world applications.
Eureka K-5 Mathematics
Our Elementary teachers have been hard at work this summer. The teams have been working with the Eureka Math to plan and develop amazing alignment for our students. Eureka Math is a math curriculum for grades pre-K through 12 that aims to help students understand concepts, develop procedural skills, and apply math to solve problems. The curriculum is designed to be coherent across grades, with topics and thinking intentionally linked. Students use the same models and problem-solving methods from year to year, and revisit learned strategies to apply them in new ways.
ATTENDANCE:
We appreciate your support in ensuring your student is attending school every day and by regularly connecting with your student’s teachers. As you can imagine, attendance is a significant factor concerning student success. The more a student is absent, the increased chance he/she will fail their courses, fall behind in class, and lose a connection with the school. We realize some absences are unavoidable due to health problems or other circumstances. We also know that when students miss too much school— regardless of the reason – it can cause them to fall behind academically.

It is the responsibility of the parent and guardian to make sure their child is attending school daily. We don’t want your child to fall behind in school and get discouraged. Please ensure that your child attends school every day and arrives on time. Here are a few practical tips to help support regular attendance:

  • Ensure your children go to school every day unless they are truly sick.
  • Avoid scheduling vacations or doctor’s appointments when school is in session.
  • Talk to teachers and counselors for advice if your children feel anxious about going to school.
  • Develop back up plans for getting to school if something comes up. Call on a family member, neighbor, or another parent to take your child to school.

Our goal this year is to ensure that every student attends school regularly. Let us know how we can best support you and your children so that they can show up for school on time every day. Working together ensures success for both the school and the students.
