    Larry Haynes                                                                                                                                                               

     Education: Bachelor of Science Tyler Junior College  Lamar University (1980)  

     Coaching Experience: Coach Haynes will begin his 35th year in the coaching profession and his 24th as a Head Coach. He has a Head Coaching record of 151 wins and 93 losses, 5 District Championships, and 8 Area Finalists. He has also been "Coach of the Year" 10 times and was also chosen as a "NFL High School Coach of the Year Award Nominee" in 2003, the highest award a High School coach can receive. Coach Haynes has also had 7 teams qualify for the 7 on 7 State Championship.  

    Playing Experience: Lettered 2 years at Tyler Junior College and was Team Cpatain 2 years while lettering at Lamar University. Was 2 time "All Conference QB" and broke 17 school records while earning Honorable-Mention All-American NCAA FBS QB in 1979. Coach Haynes is also a proud graduate of the Hardin Hornet Class of 1976

     Note: This will be the 6th year serving as AD/Head Football Coach at Hardin High School. Coach Haynes has lead the Hornets to it's only 3 championships in 75 years. 2 Bi-District Championships (2007-08) and 1 District Championship as the QB of the 1974 team. Coach Haynes has won more games than any other coach in it's 75 year storied history. Also won a 7 on 7 State Championship, Hardin's only title in 2010. *See Records And Coach History


  • Defensive Coordinator/Linebackers:

    Dylan Bethea

     Education: EAST TEXAS BAPTIST UNIVERSITY Bachelors in Business Administration, Management (2014) Masters of Business Administration, Entrepreneurial Leadership (2015)

     Coaching Experience: Coach Bethea will begin his first year in the coaching profession.

     Playing Experience: Lettered 4 years as a defensive back (Safety) at EAST TEXAS BAPTIST UNIVERSITY and was a Team Captain his sophomore, junior, and senior year. Served as a football representative on the NCAA “Student Athlete Advisory Committee” for 2 years while at ETBU. Coach Bethea is a 2009 graduate of Dayton High School and a former Safety for the Bronco football team. Coach Bethea was also a regional qualifier in track, running all relays and the 400m sprint.


    Offensive Coordinator/Offensive Line:

    Steve Firmin

    Education: (Bachelor's of Applied Arts & Sciences, Lamar University - M. Ed Concordia University Texas at Austin)

    Coaching Experience: Coach Firmin started his coaching career with New Caney ISD (Porter High School) in District 21-5A coaching Offensive/Defensive Line and then pursued another opportunity with Cypress Fairbanks ISD (Jersey Village High School) in District 17-6A where he coached Varsity Offensive line and Track.

    Playing Experience: Coach Firmin was an All-District Offensive Lineman for Klein High School in District 14-5A 2004-2005. He also played College Football (Offensive Line) at Navarro Junior College from 2005-2007. 


  • Quarterbacks:

    Myles Taylor

    Education: Associates of Applied Science in Instrumentation Technology (2014) LEE COLLEGE

    Playing Experience: Lettered 3 years at Hardin High School and was team captain in 2010. Currently holds 9 of Hardin High School’s passing records. Was the quarterback of the 2008 playoff team and 2010 7on7 State Champion Team. Two time first team all district quarterback, 2010 second team SETX quarterback. Let the entire state with 408.7 yards of total offense per game.

    Coaching Experience: Coach Taylor will begin his second year at Hardin High School. He served as the varsity quarterback coach and 7th grade head football coach.

  • Defensive Line:

    Kevin Schweers

    Education: 1992 - BS - Stephen F. Austin State University 1994 - MSEd - Baylor Univeristy
    Coaching Experience: This will be Coach Schweers' 18th year in Public Education and Coaching in Texas. The majority of his career has been with the Goose Creek CISD, and he also spent two years serving the students and athletes in Rice ISD.  
    Coach Schweers also has experience in the Canadian Football League, working as an Area Scout for the Montreal Alouettes and Hamilton Tiger-Cats while coaching in the Goose Creek CISD.  In 2010 (a Grey Cup winning season) and 2011, Coach Schweers served seasonally, full-time in Football Operations/Scouting for the Montreal Alouettes.
    Coach Schweers looks forward to working with and developing the hard working student-athletes in Hardin ISD, and helping expand the positive culture installed by Coach Haynes and the entire Hornets coaching staff.
  • Secondary:

    Heath Pavliska

    Education: Bachelor of General Studies at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana (2001).

    Coaching Experience: Coach Pav will begin his 15th year in the coaching profession. All 15 years have been for the Hardin Hornets. Coach Pav is an assistant football coach and the Head baseball coach.

    Playing Experience: Played baseball 1 year at Collin County Community College and was selected to the NJCAA All-Star game. Lettered 3 years in baseball at Northwestern State University.

  • Junior High Athletic Coordinator:  

    Brian Beck

     Wife -  Sommer Rodgers Beck Son – Branson (6 years old) Daughter – Ella (2 years old)

    Education:  Bachelor of Science – Stephen F. Austin State University (2002)

    Coaching Experience:  I have been in education and coaching since 2002.  I started in Pasadena ISD where I was the Athletic Coordinator of Southmore Intermediate (7th-8th Grade) for seven years.  In 2009 I joined Coach Haynes’ staff here at Hardin where I wore many hats for six years while coaching JH and Varsity sports.  I was the Varsity - Offensive Coordinator, Head Track coach, Assistant Basketball and Assistant Baseball coach for years while always assisting with the junior high sports.  In 2015 I took a position with Goose Creek CISD at Baytown Junior School as Campus Athletic Coordinator.  For two years the staff and I built up the program and we won several district championships and awards in football, basketball, track, soccer and tennis.  I’m excited to be starting my 16th year in education back here in Hardin, TX as the Junior High Coordinator, this is home for me.

    Education: Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from Sam Houston State University (2009)

    Coaching Experience: (7 years) 2 years of Head Basketball at Buckholts ISD, 1 year of Jr. High Coaching at Magnolia Jr. High, 3 years at Danbury Isd served 2 of the 3 years as Head Basketball, Entering 2nd year at Hardin ISD as Head Basketball Coach..

    Playing Experience: Played 2 years of Varsity basketball at Hardin High School under Duane Joubert.. First Team All District, 2nd Team All Region, Academic All State 2003-2004

  • Varsity Tight Ends/Junior High Football/JV Baseball

    James Dickey

    Playing Experience: 

    James Dickey is a graduate of Newman Smith High School in Carrollton, TX. He played 4 years as a strong safety, wing back, and quaterback. In addition to this he also played wide receiver and cornerback for the USMC FSSG team for 2 years. 

    Coaching Experience: 
    Coach Dickey will begin his first year in the coaching in the education profession. Coach Dickey has coached 8 years in the Splendora little league program, taking his team to two Super Bowl Championship games. He also coached wide receivers and defensive backs for the 12 and 14U K&D Mustang Select Elite team, which brought home 4 tournament championships and a runner up at the State Championships.
  • Junior High Football

    Trad Taylor

    Education: B.S. Kinesiology  Lamar University (2011)

    Coaching Experience: Coach Taylor will begin his 7th year of coaching. He started his coaching career at Hardin in 2011. He then spent 3 years in High Island where he was the defensive coordinator and head baseball coach. In 2015 he came back to Hardin to be assistant in both baseball and football.

    Playing Experience: Northeast Texas Community College - played pitcher and 2nd base (2004-2005) Garden City Community College - played pitcher in spring of 2005
