Course Description
This course encompasses developing knowledge about the tools of geometry, reasoning and proof, parallel and perpendicular lines, congruent triangles, relationships within triangles, polygons and quadrilaterals, coordinate geometry, transformational geometry, similarity, right triangles and trigonometry, circle measurement, theorems about circles, area, surface area and volume, and probability. The knowledge and skills developed in the Algebra I class will be utilized in this class. This course is challenging and will require work to be completed outside of class time in order to successfully complete it. Tutoring will be available if needed.
Requirements for Class
You will need a compass, protractor, notebook paper, pencils, and a 2” loose-leaf binder notebook in which to keep bell-ringer activities, daily notes, assignments, quizzes, and tests. A major grade will be assessed each six weeks for the notebook.
A textbook will be available for classroom reference use. It is imperative that notes be taken daily and that daily practice assignments be completed.
Write assignments in pencil. Use red, green, or other colors for corrections only.
Homework, classwork, quizzes, and tests are to be placed on the teacher work table according to your class period when required to be turned in.
Classroom Procedures
A seating chart based on alphabetical order of the class roster will be in effect on the first day of class. The seating chart will be subject to change as necessary as schedules are adjusted. Be in your assigned seat with all necessary materials and begin to work on the bell-ringer activity when the tardy bell rings.
Whatever the class activity (lecture, discussion, reading, taking notes, watching a film clip, etc.), be engaged in the activity. Your comprehension and acquisition of knowledge will expand and your grades will reflect your class participation.
Be respectful to your classmates, your teacher, and yourself. In regard to other subjects mentioned in class, do not repeat gossip or hearsay or refer to another student in a derogatory manner.
The study of Honors Geometry requires thoughtful consideration of information presented, notetaking, sharing of understandings, memorization of new vocabulary specific to geometry, and practice with mathematical calculations.
Late work, make-up, and retest guidelines are presented on the high school web page under the Parents tab.
Requests to leave class should be minimal. A pass will be given for emergency trips to the restroom. However, emergencies do not occur daily. Requests to leave class are a disruption to others, to the teacher, and to you and should not occur regularly. Going to another class will be with a request from that teacher. Hall passes will not be issued during the first 30 minutes. Requests to go to the nurse or to the counselor should also be rare and supportable.
In a learning environment, there will be discussion and movement. However, noise and activity should not rise to such a level that there is a disruption of neighboring classes.
Telephones, earbuds, music players, etc. are not to be visible in class and are to be silenced. Keep them in your backpack, purse, or pocket.

I look forward to teaching this class in the coming school year. My personal goal is to provide an enjoyable study of Honors Geometry to you and to guide you to an appreciation of how we use geometry in our daily lives. I am glad to have you in my classroom and hope that you will look forward to learning as much as I look forward to teaching you.
